INSTITUTE OF CHINA RECOGNIZES INPE’S SCIENTIST WORK

Dr. Walter Gonzalez, recently awarded with the 2017 Space Weather Prize of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), author of numerous works on geomagnetic storms and magnetic reconnection, and with a career with many international recognitions and citations was again awarded, now by China.

Researcher of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) since the 1970s (currently retired), member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences since 2014, was recently appointed as Scientist Advisor of the Brazil-China Cooperation Program in Space Sciences and Technologies and of the Joint Laboratory in Space Weather.

In a recent visit to China, after a workshop on international cooperation promoted by the Brazilian Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Science, with researchers from INPE and the National Space Science Center (NSSC) of China, Dr. Gonzalez received another honor for his professional performance.

On April 1 of this year, during an Awards ceremony held in Beijing, China, Dr. Gonzalez, a renowned scientist, received the Title of Honorary Professor, which was awarded by the National Space Science Center / Chinese Academy of Sciences – NSSC / CAS in recognition of his work throughout his scientific career.

“It was an honor to receive this award and I understand that the award was intended to all who collaborated with me in the development of Space Sciences along the years. Besides, the award is to be also shared by those involved in the collaboration Program in Space Sciences and Space Weather between Brazil and China”, said Dr. Gonzalez.
